Lauryn Hill, Wyclef Jean and Pras Michel of legendary hip-hop group Fugees have reunited to announce their first world tour in 25 years and first shows in 15 years to celebrate the anniversary of 1996вЂ™s The Score, one of the greatest albums of all time. We would be a voice for the un-heard, and in these challenging times, I am grateful once again, that God has brought us together.Ms. Jean added, вЂњAs I celebrate 25 years with the Fugees, my first memory was that we vowed, from the gate, we would not just do music, we would be a movement. I decided to honor this significant project, its anniversary, and the fans who appreciated the music by creating a peaceful platform where we could unite, perform the music we loved, and set an example of reconciliation for the world.вЂќ I wasnвЂ™t even aware the 25th anniversary had arrived until someone brought it to my attention.

In a press statement along with the announcement, Hill said, вЂњThe Fugees have a complex but impactful history. With the 2021 tour marking 25 years of The Score, the Fugees members hope to bury the hatchet and celebrate the timeless music they made together. Hopefully a proper and enduring Fugees reunion will happen.вЂќ I really felt we shoulda first all gone into a room with Lauryn and a psychiatristвЂ¦ But, you know, I do believe Lauryn can get help.

As Wyclef told Blues & Soul in 2007, вЂњI feel the first issue that needs to be addressed is that Lauryn needs helpвЂ¦ In my personal opinion, those Fugees reunion shows shouldnвЂ™t have been done, because we wasnвЂ™t ready. The band did not leave things on good terms. The group famously reunited onstage in 2004 to perform as part of Dave ChappelleвЂ™s Block Party, and rode that momentum through a brief 2005 reunion for a short set at the BET Music Awards, a few scattered tour dates, and a lone single (вЂњTake It EasyвЂќ), but creative disputes over new material and other intra-band conflicts prompted the Fugees to disband once again in 2006. HillвЂ™s seminal solo album, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, was released the following year. While the group didnвЂ™t officially break up, all three members began working on solo projects in 1997. While The ScoreВ remains one of the most influential hip-hop records of the era, the remainder of the Fugees story has been marked by hostility. The sophomore album quickly exploded in popularity, eventually picking up a pair of Grammy Awards in 1997 (for the album as a whole as well as for вЂњKilling Me SoftlyвЂќ) and going Platinum seven times over. After first coming together as Tranzlator Crew as high school students in New Jersey, the group signed to Columbia Records imprint Ruffhouse in 1993 and changed their name to вЂњFugeesвЂќ-short for вЂњrefugeesвЂќ-reappropriating a word typically used to Haitian-Americans in a derogatory manner.ДЇugees released their debut, Blunted on Reality, in 1994 and returned with The Score two years later.
